Named by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as one of Montreal’s most influential women in the fashion industry, Dariane Sanche talent for creating timeless images overflowing with imagination. She draws her inspiration from haute couture, dramatic textures and classic style. Dariane stands out for her unique and cinematic artistic photographic flair which is now her trademark.

Born in Mont-Laurier in the upper Laurentians, Dariane lived her childhood in a mountainous territory bordered by lakes and nature reserves. Coming from an artistic background, at the age of nine she learned photoshop software, and at seventeen, she bought her very first camera and made her debut in photography. A few years later, at the age of twenty, she moved to Montreal to open her photography studio and live fully from her art.

Dariane love for fashion is undisputable and her passion for creating stories through her work comes to life with every photograph. “Fashion photography has always been my one and only vocation. Inspiration comes to me completely naturally and that’s what allows me to create. For me, photography is a very stimulating and liberating art. Photos allows me to tell a story, sell a concept, an idea, or a mood.”

Mesmerizing Circus

She refers to herself as an artist; she says “photography is an art first and foremost. Everyone can take photos, but not all photos are works of art. Just like music, which must be harmonious to our ears and evoke senses in us, photography must be harmonious for the eyes and arouse an emotion.”

According to Dariane, photographic skills come with practice. “For my part, I can easily conceptualize and imagine my photos in my head and reproduce them on the set. The composition, the light, the angles, telling a story, directing the models. These are all skills that develop over time and with practice.”

She strongly believes that a good photographer must combine art with skills. “Photography is an art and we do not all appreciate the same artistic styles. There is something for everyone and it is the diversity that makes it so beautiful. However, there are certain qualities that a good photographer must have. A good photographer must be sensitive to the environment and must draw inspiration from it. A good photographer is an artist who remains faithful to an artistic style. Like a painting, it is possible to identify a photographer’s work and signature simply by looking at their images.”

She describes her style of photography with four words: Cinematic, Conceptual – Emotional – Editorial – “I love capturing emotions and conveying them through images. I want, when people look at my photos to feel an emotion and to capture the mood. I really like to add texture to my photography and mix it up with cinematic lighting; playing with lighting effects and shadows.”

She loves working on editorial photoshoots and says that editorials give creative freedom to a photographer.

On the subject of social media, Dariane acknowledges the significance of social media platforms and their important role as marketing channels for winning new contracts. And for those wishing to follow in her footsteps, her best piece of advice is simple: “Master the light (studio light or natural light). Once the light is beautiful and controlled the rest should go well. Find your style, get inspired, develop your style, shoot, shoot & shoot. The more you practice, the better you will get! Don’t be afraid to try and get out of your comfort zone. Don’t focus too much on technique, let your artistic side go, and when it’s come to photo editing, your choice of photo and how you frame the picture is also very important.”
