As a fashion photographer, it’s important for me to be able to move freely around the set while remaining connected to my workstation, and to have a simple, fast and efficient workflow. The holiday season is the perfect time to pick up some new equipment or accessories that can help you in your work and your passion for photography.
The key starts with choosing the right work tools for your needs!
One of my criteria is the portability of my equipment and being able to carry it in my car. My shoots are very varied. Sometimes in the studio, sometimes on location and other times outdoors or in places with limited access. Thank you Tethertools for this collaboration.
31ft Cable 5gbs:
The new 31ft 5gbs cable is ideal for me as it gives me all the freedom of movement I need without having to move my shooting station. The cable has a very robust construction which means I can use it in all conditions without fear of damaging it. You can really feel that it’s been reinforced in strategic places + having a custom formulated water-resistant housing. What’s more, as it’s all one long cable, the connection is stable and enables rapid transfer of files to the computer.
Rock solid Vesa Studio support de moniteur pour pied
Rock solid Master Clamp (RS220)
As mentioned above, the portability of my equipment is an important criterion for me. The rock solid Low boy roller is a tripod on wheels that folds up and is very easy to transport, without taking up too much space or being too heavy. Its super-strong base allows me to use this tripod as a workstation and attach my laptop (Macbook Pro M2 Max) to it using the combo (Rock solid Master Clamp + Rock Solid Master Side Arm) and add a large monitor (Benq SW271 27inch 4k) using the Rock Solid VESA Studio Monitor Mount for stand.
This shoot station takes just a few moments to set up once you’re shooting. The advantage is a portable, 360-degree workstation. It allows me to access my laptop and keep an eye on the visual with my large screen facing me while shooting. Also, having 2 screens allows for better collaboration with the rest of the team (make-up artist, hairdressers, stylist, client, etc.), confirming that we’re going in the right direction and making corrections along the way to the photographed looks.
LeverLock:
Finally, one of my favorite tools with Tethertools is the new TetherGuard LeverLock. The great advantage of this new plate is that it can remain permanently attached to my camera (Canon R5). Thanks to the LeverLock mechanism, I can simply insert the cable into the plate and into the “S channel”, and it’s fixed, secured and protected for shooting. When it’s time to wrap up the equipment, simply press the Leverlock to remove the cable and store the camera. This plate also has the advantage of protecting the usb-c port from costly repair, as it prevents tension being applied to the cable between the usb-c socket and the tetherguard.
In terms of lighting, I’ve been working exclusively with Broncolor products for several years now. Broncolor is reputed to be the best brand of flash and light modifiers in the world for its quality of construction and quality of light. As mentioned above, one of my criteria in choosing equipment is portability. The Broncolor Siros 800L lights are the ideal tool for those who work both in the studio and on location. These lights are battery-powered, with a power output of 800 watts that’s more than enough for outdoor shoots, a very short recycling time and a very fast battery recharge time. In my opinion, this is one of the best and most versatile kits for professionals wishing to invest in quality tools that will follow them throughout their career.
Those of you who have been following me for a while will know that I regularly work with Capture One. Capture One is the #1 Capture software for all professional photographers. Capture one allows you to work with greater color accuracy, is much faster to shoot connected, and is 100% customizable. What’s more, the software offers improved team collaboration, a private web gallery system, A.I. tools to speed up your work in post-production, flexible workflow between computer, iPad and iPhone, and much more.
We were talking earlier about my Tethertools workstation. Backing up and managing photo files is undoubtedly one of the elements not to be neglected. I always work with 2 external hard drives connected to my laptop. I use Lacie SSD Pro 1tb. They’re super-fast at reading and writing files. One of them serves as my main hard disk for shooting, while the second, thanks to a software program, enables me to make backups in real time for each shot.
The Canon R5 is a very powerful and super versatile camera for fashion and portrait photographers! Although the second generation has been released with a more advanced version, those wishing to upgrade their camera on a budget can turn to the first-generation R5 still available in stores, or choose the latest second-generation version featuring new technology.
